Police have arrested three people, including a Jubo League leader, with yaba in Sunamganj’s Dharmapasha upazila.
The arrests were made during a police raid at a house in Bir Uttar village of Selbarash Union early on Friday (4 September). Police said the operation was carried out after receiving confidential information about alleged drug-related activities at the residence of Sajjad Hossain.
Those arrested have been identified as Shaker Hossain Sagar, 35, his brother Sajjad Hossain, 34, and Mohammad Rana Mia, 35. Sagar is the son of the late Nur Hossain of Bir Uttar village and serves as the liberation war affairs secretary of the Dharmapasha upazila unit of Jubo League. Sajjad is also from the same village, while Rana Mia is a resident of Sharisham village and the son of Madin Ali.
According to police, officers searched Sajjad Hossain’s house during the early-morning operation and recovered 38 yaba tablets from the premises. The three men were subsequently arrested in connection with the recovery.
A case has been filed against them at Dharmapasha Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. Police said the case would now proceed through the legal process, with the recovered yaba forming part of the evidence in the investigation.
Dharmapasha Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Imam Hossain said the three had previously been detained in connection with drugs. According to him, they resumed alleged drug-related activities in the area after being released from prison.
Following their arrest on Friday, the three were produced before a court and subsequently sent to jail through judicial proceedings, the officer said.
The latest arrests come as police continue to conduct operations against the possession and alleged distribution of illegal drugs in the area. Yaba, a tablet containing methamphetamine, is a prohibited narcotic in Bangladesh, and cases involving its possession or distribution are dealt with under the country’s narcotics legislation.
Police said the latest operation was based on prior intelligence and resulted in the seizure of 38 tablets. The allegations against the three arrested men will now be subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. Their arrest does not, by itself, establish guilt, which will ultimately be determined through the legal process.
