The two were detained at around 3.30pm on Sunday, 25 October, from the fourth floor of a building in the Mujgunni area of Khalishpur, according to police.
The man has been identified as Momtazir Billah, 26. Local sources said he is the son of Golam Faruk, chairman of Islamkati Union Parishad in Tala upazila of Satkhira district and a leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Sudarshan Roy confirmed that the two individuals had been taken to a police station following information received from local residents.
Police are questioning them to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, the authorities have not yet disclosed the specific allegations, if any, that led to their detention.
The police have also not provided further details about the identity of the young woman or the nature of her relationship with Billah. No additional information has been released regarding the findings of the questioning.
According to Deputy Commissioner Roy, legal proceedings are under way in connection with the incident. The next steps will depend on the information gathered during questioning and the applicable legal procedures.
The incident has drawn attention because of the reported family and political connections of the detained man. However, his family background alone does not establish any wrongdoing, and the circumstances of the case remain unclear pending further information from the authorities.
Police have yet to announce whether any formal charges will be brought against either individual. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
