A Sub-Inspector of police attached to the Mokamtala police investigation centre in Shibganj upazila, Bogura, has been withdrawn from his post following allegations of repeated sexual assault under the pretext of a false marriage promise. Preliminary administrative inquiries corroborated key aspects of the complaint, prompting senior authorities to attach him to the district police lines.
The accused officer, Sub-Inspector Md Ansar Ali, reported to the Bogura Police Lines on Monday night following his removal from duty. Inspector Md Almas Ali, in-charge of the Mokamtala police investigation centre, officially confirmed the officer’s withdrawal on Tuesday, 27 October.
According to police sources and the formal complaint, the officer first came into contact with the young woman in November last year while investigating a complaint lodged by her estranged husband. During the course of that inquiry, Sub-Inspector Ali visited her residence, after which regular telephone conversations began, leading to a personal relationship.
The complainant alleged that the officer repeatedly engaged in physical relations with her at various locations after promising to marry her. Tensions arose when she began pressing him to fulfil his commitment to marriage. Rather than proceeding, the officer began evading her requests before eventually severing all communication. Left with no alternative, the woman submitted a formal written complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Bogura on 8 October.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shibganj Circle) Md Robiul Islam, who is leading the investigation, stated that officers recorded the complainant’s detailed statement on Saturday, 24 October. During the session, she submitted digital evidence to support her claims, including video recordings and screenshots of electronic communications exchanged between them.
Initial departmental inquiries also substantiated her frequent visits to the Mokamtala police investigation centre, reinforcing her narrative. Senior police officials confirmed that departmental proceedings and further legal steps against the officer are currently underway as the formal investigation continues.
