The Magura District Police have announced the resolution of the investigation into the brutal murder of 16-year-old Suman Mollya. On Wednesday afternoon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Molla Azad Hossain held a press briefing at his office to detail the circumstances surrounding the death of the teenager, whose mutilated body was discovered in a banana plantation on 3 April, three days after he was reported missing.
Suman Mollya, a resident of the Mirpara area within Magura Municipality and the son of Shariful Islam, worked as a rickshaw puller. He went missing on the night of 31 March. Following his disappearance, his family filed a formal complaint at the Magura Sadar Police Station on 2 April.
On the afternoon of 3 April, police recovered his body from a banana plantation adjacent to a fish enclosure owned by one Aynal Molla in the South Mirpara Mathpara area. Following the recovery, the victim’s grandmother, Jahanara, filed an official murder case against unidentified individuals at the Magura Sadar Police Station on 4 April.
According to the SP, the homicide was triggered by a dispute regarding a mobile phone that had been kept as collateral. On 31 March, at approximately 10:00 pm, a heated altercation occurred between Suman and several of his acquaintances.
During the confrontation, the suspects struck Suman on the head, causing him to lose consciousness. The perpetrators then tied him to a tree and subjected him to a violent physical assault. To ensure his death, the assailants inflicted multiple stab wounds across his body before finally slitting his throat. The body was subsequently abandoned in the nearby plantation.
Utilising information technology and intelligence leads, the police conducted raids over several days, resulting in the apprehension of five individuals. The suspects are reported to be peers and friends of the victim.

Tarikul Islam, identified as one of the primary orchestrators of the crime, was apprehended in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, while Hridoy Hossain was detained in the Kukila area of Magura.
Preliminary police findings suggest that the suspects were involved in the consumption of narcotics, specifically marijuana and Yaba. During interrogation, Tarikul Islam and several other detainees reportedly confessed to their involvement in the killing. SP Molla Azad Hossain confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing to determine if additional individuals were complicit in the crime. The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the court to face legal proceedings.
