Pregnant Entrepreneur Files Extortion Lawsuit Against Politician

A pregnant female entrepreneur has filed a formal lawsuit against a local Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader and his associates, alleging physical assault, public humiliation, and financial extortion. The legal complaint was formally submitted to the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Narsingdi on Thursday, 18 June 2026. The primary accused individuals named in the legal case include Aminur রহমান Sarkar Dolon, who serves as the member secretary of the Monohardi upazila unit of the BNP, alongside Abdul Jabbar from the Harordia area and Moktar Uddin Talukder from the Arjunchar locality.

Incident Background and Details of Assault

According to the deposition filed by the victimized business owner, Aminur Rahman Sarkar Dolon and his accomplices had been systematically demanding an extortion payment of 100,000 Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) from her over an extended period. Because she continuously refused to comply with these financial demands, the accused individuals allegedly subjected her to persistent threats and intimidation tactics.

The situation escalated significantly on the afternoon of 7 May 2026, when the named individuals organized an unlawful assembly and forcibly entered the victim’s commercial establishment, a beauty parlour located within Monohardi upazila. Upon entry, the group reiterated their demand for the immediate payment of the extortion money. When the pregnant entrepreneur firmly declined to pay the sum, the accused individuals became aggressive and launched a physical attack against her.

During the assault, the culprits reportedly beat the pregnant woman using a plastic pipe. As she collapsed onto the floor, the primary accused leader allegedly dragged her clothing, causing public humiliation and a violation of modesty. Furthermore, the attacker seized her mobile phone and destroyed it. Concurrently, the other co-accused individuals engaged in theft within the business premises. Abdul Jabbar reportedly looted 52,000 BDT from the commercial cash drawer, while Moktar Uddin Talukder forcibly removed a gold necklace weighing eight annas (approximately 5.83 grams) from the victim’s neck.

Medical Treatment and Initial Judicial Delays

Upon hearing the victim’s cries for assistance, local shopkeepers and residents from the adjacent area rushed to the beauty parlour to intervene. Faced with a gathering crowd, the attackers issued death threats to the victim and onlookers before fleeing the crime scene. The injured pregnant entrepreneur was subsequently rescued and admitted to the Katiadi Upazila Health Complex, where she underwent specialized medical treatment for the physical trauma sustained during the attack.

Following her discharge from the medical facility, the victim approached the Monohardi Police Station to log an official First Information Report (FIR). However, she stated that the station house officers initially declined to register the criminal case directly, advising her instead to file a written complaint. Despite subsequently submitting a formal written complaint to the station, the territorial police did not register a case over the following weeks, forcing her to seek direct intervention from the Narsingdi district judiciary on 18 June.

Official Responses and Conflicting Statements

The principal accused, Aminur Rahman Sarkar Dolon, has entirely rejected the allegations, asserting that no such incident ever transpired. He characterised the lawsuit as a baseless fabrication stemming from a mutual misunderstanding.

Similarly, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monohardi Police Station, Jahangir Badsha, denied any allegations of deliberate administrative delay or negligence. The OC claimed that he possessed no prior knowledge of the altercation and asserted that no female complainant had approached the station with these specific grievances.

Providing a political context to the development, Monjur Elahi, the General Secretary of the Narsingdi District BNP and the sitting Member of Parliament for the Narsingdi-3 (Shibpur) constituency, categorized the lawsuit as a coordinated political conspiracy. He suggested that the legal charges were likely engineered to damage the reputation of the party leadership. Monjur Elahi emphasized that a fair, objective, and thorough investigation must be carried out by law enforcement authorities before any definitive conclusions can be drawn regarding the case details.
