The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming bilateral Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Ireland and England. The announcement, released via an official communication on social media, features the historic inclusion of 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. This selection comes immediately after his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he garnered significant attention for his statistical records and individual performance accolades.
Should Suryavanshi feature in a competitive match against either Ireland or England, he will officially establish a new record as the youngest cricketer to debut for India in international cricket history.
This historic milestone is currently held by the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar made his international debut for the national team in November 1989 against Pakistan at the age of 16 years and 205 days. Suryavanshi, entering the squad at just 15 years of age, stands on the verge of eclipsing a national cricketing record that has remained unbroken for over three decades.
Beyond the inclusion of the teenage batsman, the BCCI selection committee introduced several significant changes to the team hierarchy. Most notably, senior batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been omitted from the 16-member travelling squad. This decision comes despite Yadav recently leading the Indian national team to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
In his place, the cricket board has appointed middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer to captain the national side for the duration of the consecutive tours in Ireland and England. To support Iyer in his leadership duties, the selectors have named Tilak Varma as the vice-captain of the squad, signalling a tactical shift toward a reshaped leadership structure for this specific cycle of short-format international fixtures.
The selected touring party consists of a blend of experienced international regulars, recent World Cup participants, and emerging domestic performers. The squad incorporates multiple specialist spin options, an established pace battery, and a flexible top-order batting line-up designed to adapt to the playing conditions in both Ireland and England.
The complete 16-member Indian T20I squad confirmed by the BCCI comprises the following players:
Official Indian T20I Touring Squad
Shreyas Iyer (Captain)
Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain)
Ravi Bishnoi
Abhishek Sharma
Nitish Kumar Reddy
Mohammed Siraj
Sanju Samson
Axar Patel
Harshit Rana
Ishan Kishan

Arshdeep Singh

The formal promotional phase and operational logistics for the team will commence shorty, with the team management expected to utilise the preparatory sessions ahead of the opening fixture to assess the physical readiness of Suryavanshi and finalise the tactical combinations under the new captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.
