In a move aimed at stabilising fuel supply and ensuring orderly distribution, the district administration of Chuadanga has decided to introduce a “fuel card” system for the purchase of petroleum products.
The decision was taken during a meeting held on Sunday at around 12:00 noon, focusing on fuel stock management, transportation, marketing, and consumption oversight across the district. Officials stated that the new arrangement is intended to prevent irregularities, reduce pressure on fuel stations, and ensure fair access for genuine vehicle users.
District Commissioner Kamal Hossain announced that fuel cards for vehicles will be issued on 30 and 31 March from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Applicants will be required to submit essential documentation, including the vehicle registration number, the driver’s driving licence number, and a photocopy of the national identity card.
He further clarified that from 1 April onwards, only vehicles holding valid fuel cards will be eligible to purchase fuel at designated filling stations. Fuel distribution will be carried out based on necessity, with operations scheduled daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm across 22 petrol stations in the district.
However, the administration has made a special provision for the agricultural sector. Diesel used for farming activities will continue to be available around the clock, in order to avoid disruption to agricultural production and seasonal cultivation demands.
Authorities also issued a strict warning regarding malpractice at fuel stations. If any station employee is found involved in irregularities or unethical practices, the responsibility will lie with the respective owners of the petrol pumps.
Chuadanga Police Superintendent Ruhul Kabir Khan stated that enforcement drives will begin from 30 March targeting unregistered vehicles, unlicensed drivers, and motorcyclists without helmets. He also warned that any attempt to create artificial shortages or engage in fuel black marketing would be dealt with under the full force of the law.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan, commander of Chuadanga–6 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed that surveillance has been intensified along the border areas to prevent illegal fuel smuggling. Security patrols have been reinforced to ensure that petroleum products are not diverted across the border.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nayan Kumar Rajbongshi, Additional District Magistrate B M Tariqul Uz Zaman, along with representatives from various government and private departments, political leaders, and members of the petrol pump owners’ association.
