In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government has appointed new Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across 11 districts, according to a notification issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Public Administration. The changes form part of a broader effort to refresh field administration by rotating senior officials from central government postings to district-level responsibilities.
Under the latest order, the previous Deputy Commissioners serving in these districts have been withdrawn and placed at the disposal of the Ministry for further posting. All newly appointed DCs were previously serving in various ministries and departments in Dhaka, mostly at the rank of Deputy Secretary or equivalent. Their deployment to district administration is intended to strengthen governance at the local level through experienced central officials.
According to the notification, the appointments cover a diverse range of administrative backgrounds, including public administration, education, home affairs, finance, energy, and project management. Officials familiar with the process noted that such rotations are a routine part of Bangladesh’s civil service management, aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and coordination between central and field administration.
In Rajshahi, Deputy Secretary Kazi Shahidul Islam of the Ministry of Public Administration has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner. Huree Jannat, previously serving in the Secondary and Higher Education Division, has been posted to Khulna in the same capacity. In Chuadanga, Lutful Nahar from the Ministry of Home Affairs takes over as DC, while Morsheda Akhtar of the Finance Division has been appointed to Madaripur.
Other key appointments include Md Abu Sayeed, formerly Deputy Director at the Government Printing Press, now serving as DC of Brahmanbaria. Ahmed Ziauddin Rahman from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has been posted to Chandpur. In Habiganj, the role goes to G M Sarfaraz of the Cabinet Division.
Israt Jahan Keya from the Ministry of Labour and Employment has been appointed DC of Narsingdi, while Shilpi Rani Roy from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs takes charge in Meherpur. In Lalmonirhat, Md Rashedul Haque Pradhan, previously Secretary at the Power Development Board, has been assigned as DC. Meanwhile, Md Saniul Ferdous, Deputy Project Director of the Land Management Automation Project, has been posted to Bandarban.

Officials previously holding DC positions in these districts have been returned to the Ministry of Public Administration for subsequent postings. The government’s ongoing rotation of field administrators is widely viewed as part of efforts to enhance service delivery, ensure administrative neutrality, and reinforce governance structures at district level.
Earlier on 15 March, similar changes were made in five other districts, including Gazipur, Chapainawabganj, Panchagarh, Kushtia, and Netrokona, signalling a continuing cycle of administrative renewal across the country.
