Purnima Faces Syndicate Barriers in Return to Acting

Bangladeshi actress Dilara Hanif Purnima, once a beloved star of Dhallywood, has been absent from the big screen for a considerable time. While she frequently shares glimpses of her familiar, graceful self on social media, fans continue to eagerly await her return to acting. However, Purnima has expressed frustrations and disappointments regarding the industry, revealing challenges she faces in resuming her career.

Recently, Purnima has appeared on a few OTT platforms, signalling her willingness to continue acting in digital productions. However, she emphasises that she would only engage with strong stories and well-developed characters.

In an interview with the media, she stated: “If I get a good story and a quality character, I am still willing to work.”

Despite her interest in OTT work, Purnima acknowledges a major obstacle: the industry syndicate. She perceives it as a significant barrier preventing talented outsiders from gaining opportunities.

She explained:“I want to work on OTT platforms, but there is a large syndicate controlling the work there. They do not easily allow outsiders to participate. Only those within the group consistently receive opportunities, while many talented artists, capable of excellent work, are denied their chance.”

Despite these challenges, Purnima remains hopeful. She believes that with deserved respect and compelling stories, she can reignite her passion for acting. The actress reflected on her past work, noting that projects like Mohangor, Karagar, and Golam Mamun exemplify the type of quality she wishes to pursue again.
