A young motorcyclist remains in a critical condition at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being struck by a brick allegedly thrown by muggers during a violent incident in Shewrapara, Mirpur, in the capital.
The victim, identified as Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, sustained severe head injuries when he was hit while riding through the busy neighbourhood. Medical officials at the hospital have stated that his condition remains highly precarious and he is not yet out of danger. He continues to receive intensive care and constant monitoring.
Rafi’s mother, Tania Chowdhury, has appealed to the public for prayers and support during this distressing time. In an emotional statement, she said, “My son’s condition is very critical. Please pray for him.” Her words reflect the deep anxiety faced by the family as doctors continue to fight to stabilise his condition.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies moved swiftly. On Thursday evening, a special operation was conducted in the Kafrul area, leading to the arrest of two individuals in connection with the attack. The operation was carried out by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4), a specialised anti-crime unit.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Faisal and Md Kalu, aged around 27. According to preliminary interrogation, they claimed that there had been an ongoing business dispute between them and the victim. They further alleged that previous altercations and verbal confrontations had taken place due to this disagreement.
Authorities stated that on the day of the incident, the motorcyclist was travelling alone when an attempt was allegedly made to stop him in the Shewrapara area. The situation escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal brick attack that left Rafi critically injured.
Investigators are continuing to examine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the attack was premeditated or the result of a sudden escalation of a personal dispute. Police have indicated that further legal action will be taken as evidence is gathered and witness statements are recorded.
