A devastating early morning road accident on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway in Nandail upazila has claimed the life of a young truck driver and left his brother severely injured. The crash occurred at approximately 4:00 AM on Sunday near the Amlitala Jorpukurpar area, when the heavy vehicle veered out of control and smashed through a bridge railing.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Md Humayun, son of Suruj Ali Sheikh from Sarchapur village in Phulpur upazila. His younger brother, Mamun, who was travelling alongside him in the cabin, sustained serious injuries in the impact.
According to local accounts and family sources, the tragedy unfolded as the brothers transported a heavy cargo load. On Saturday afternoon, the mini-truck was loaded with 400 sacks of rice in Sherpur’s Sreebordi upazila, bound for Noakhali. As the vehicle traversed Nandail in the pre-dawn hours, the driver lost control, causing the truck to violently ram into the concrete railing of a roadside bridge, leaving the cabin completely crushed.
Tabarak Ali, a local resident, recounted rushing out of his home after hearing a massive collision. Upon reaching the scene, he discovered the truck wedged against the bridge barrier with the driver trapped inside, severely wounded and unresponsive. Local villagers rallied together to extract the brothers from the wreckage, rushing them to the Nandail Upazila Health Complex. However, attending physicians pronounced Humayun dead upon arrival, citing severe blood loss from his injuries.
The loss has struck the family a crushing blow. Relatives shared that the two brothers had jointly purchased the mini-truck roughly a year ago, relying entirely on transport earnings to sustain their household. With the primary breadwinner dead and their sole source of livelihood wrecked, the family now faces profound destitution.
Officer-in-Charge Jibon Kumar Roy of the Nandail Highway Police Station confirmed the incident, noting that officers were dispatched immediately following reports of the crash. Following initial medical treatment for the surviving brother and the completion of necessary legal formalities, police handed Humayun’s body over to Mamun for final funeral rites. Authorities continue to review road safety along regional transit corridors following the fatal mishap.
