Mohammedan’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Abahani has signalled the return of high-octane football to the Bangladesh Premier League. The match at Shahid Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Comilla was a pulsating affair, featuring five goals and relentless intensity from both sides.
The Black-and-Whites entered the season amid considerable uncertainty. Reports of internal conflicts, delayed wages, and last-minute squad assembly had raised doubts over their competitiveness. Yet, on the pitch, these concerns were nowhere to be seen. Mohammedan’s cohesion, strategy, and resilience were on full display, culminating in a well-deserved victory.
Rahim Uddin’s early 20th-minute goal set the tone, followed by Emmanuel Cake doubling the lead before halftime. Samuel Boateng’s 58th-minute strike, assisted by Shanto Hasan, appeared to seal the game. Abahani rallied with Papon Singh and Sheikh Mormalin scoring within six minutes to make it 3-2, but Mohammedan held firm to claim the win.
The result marks Mohammedan’s first victory in three matches this season, offering a strong psychological boost. Elsewhere, Bashundhara Kings climbed to the summit with a 2-0 win over Arambagh, while Brothers Union and Police FC also secured positive results. As the season unfolds, close contests like this are set to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
