It has been a gruelling year for Pakistan cricket, filled with long flights, shifting formats and relentless matchdays. Through it all, one player has stood like a constant pillar—Salman Agha. Not once has he stepped aside, rested or been rotated. In all 54 international matches Pakistan have played this year, Salman has walked onto the field. And with that unwavering presence, he has carved his name into cricketing history.
Against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation T20 series, a simple appearance was enough to make headlines. That match pushed him beyond the illustrious trio—Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Mohammad Yousuf—who jointly held the earlier record of 53 games in a single year.
This long season has been a blend of intensity and endurance for Salman:
— The frenetic pace of 32 T20Is
— The tactical challenges of 17 ODIs
— The mental battle of 5 Test matches
Few players can maintain fitness and concentration across such diverse formats. The 50-matches-a-year milestone itself has been reached by only 22 players in the game’s long history. Salman’s achievement, therefore, is not merely numerical—it speaks of adaptability, consistency and remarkable physical resilience.
Pakistan’s year is not yet over. Their next match against Sri Lanka could see the team break their own national record for most matches in a year. Meanwhile, India’s colossal 71-match marathon in 2022 still stands as the highest team total on record.
For Salman Agha, however, 2024 will forever remain the year he stepped out of the shadows of legends and into a category of his own.
