A secondary school student sitting for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations was allegedly stabbed with a sharp weapon in the Chhagalnaiya Upazila of Feni district. The violent incident occurred on Sunday, 17 May 2026, during the final day of the national public examinations. The assault took place in the afternoon directly in front of the Banglabazar Chholema Nazir High School examination centre, following a dispute regarding the refusal of a candidate to permit another student to view and copy answers from his examination script.
The injured student has been identified as Kazi Ahmed Ashrafi Nabil, a candidate representing the Haripur Ali Akbar High School. He is the son of Kazi Nurul Absar Ripon, residing in Silua village under the Motobi Union. The principal accused in the assault has been identified as Rakib Hossain, a student from the Gotia Azizul Haq High School, who was reportedly taking the examinations at the same venue.
According to statements provided by the victim, eyewitnesses, and local sources, the conflict originated on the very first day of the examination schedule. Rakib Hossain had been allocated a seat on the bench directly behind Kazi Ahmed Ashrafi Nabil. Throughout the initial examination session, Rakib repeatedly and forcefully attempted to view Nabil’s answer sheet to copy his work.
When Nabil refused to comply with these demands and shielded his examination paper, it triggered a hostile reaction. Consequently, upon the conclusion of that first session, Rakib reportedly confronted Nabil outside the examination centre, subjecting him to verbal abuse and threats of retaliation.
The underlying animosity culminated on Sunday afternoon immediately after the final examination concluded. As Nabil exited the institutional gates of the Banglabazar Chholema Nazir High School examination centre, he was intercepted by Rakib Hossain and a group of approximately seven to eight unidentified young men.
The group initially surrounded Nabil and subjected him to a physical assault, punching and kicking him. The victim reported that during the scuffle, a member of the group produced a sharp weapon and stabbed him directly in the back. Following the stabbing, the assailants fled the scene before institutional security or law enforcement could intervene.
Local residents and fellow students who witnessed the attack immediately intervened to rescue the bleeding youth. He was initially transported to a local pharmacy in the Banglabazar area to receive basic first aid.
However, as his physiological condition was deemed critical by first responders due to the severity of the stab wound, he was urgently transferred to the Chhagalnaiya Upazila Health Complex. Medical professionals at the sub-district hospital admitted him for emergency inpatient care to stabilize his condition.
The family of the injured student has expressed profound outrage over the breach of security surrounding the public examination venue. Speaking to the press regarding the incident, the victim’s mother, Nargis Akhter, stated:
“My son was subjected to this barbaric attack as part of a premeditated plan to murder him. I formally demand justice from the administration and call for exemplary punishment for those responsible for this act.”
Following the incident, the victim’s family filed an official written complaint at the Chhagalnaiya Police Station to initiate a formal criminal investigation.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Chhagalnaiya Police Station, Mohammad Shahin Miah, confirmed the receipt of the written complaint. Officer-in-Charge Miah stated that law enforcement authorities are treating the border-area school assault with the utmost seriousness. He assured the public that the police are actively conducting raids and implementing necessary legal measures to apprehend the accused individuals and bring them to justice swiftly.
