Seven Month Old Infant Dies From Measles Symptoms

The tragic demise of a seven-month-old infant, Sajid Al Nahiyan, has left his family in deep mourning following an arduous and unsuccessful attempt to secure effective medical treatment across seven different hospitals. Sajid was the only son of Parvez Ahmed Suman, an expatriate residing in Dubai, and his wife, Sultana Akhter. • 14 April: Sajid initially developed a cough and cold. His parents sought medical advice from a physician at a private hospital located in the Chauddagram bazaar area. The child showed temporary signs of recovery after being administered prescribed antibiotics.

• 12 May: The infant suffered a severe relapse, prompting his parents to admit him to the state-run Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex.

• 14 May: Following two days of inpatient care without any visible signs of clinical improvement, the attending medical staff recommended advanced treatment. The family subsequently transferred the child to a private medical facility in the neighbouring Feni district headquarters.

• Subsequent Days: As his physiological condition continued to deteriorate rapidly in Feni, the family rushed him to the capital city of Dhaka. In a desperate bid to save his life, the infant was sequentially taken to the Dhaka Shishu (Children’s) Hospital, the Dhaka National Health Care Hospital, and ultimately to the Impulse Hospital located in the Tejgaon area of the capital.

Dr Tofail clarified that owing to the severe deterioration of the child’s clinical parameters, the local hospital authorities formally advised the parents to seek immediate advanced tertiary care in Dhaka.
