Singer Sharmin Akter, who rose to prominence after winning the championship of the music competition ‘Channel i Banglar Gaan 2016’, has married fellow musician Sabbir Quraishi.
The wedding ceremony took place on Monday, 17 August, at Gausul Azam Mosque in the capital. Members of both families were present as the couple formally began their married life.
Sharmin herself confirmed the news, describing the marriage as the beginning of a significant new chapter in her life. She expressed gratitude for the support and blessings of her family and close ones and asked everyone to pray for the couple’s happiness and peace.
“Alhamdulillah, I have begun a new chapter of my life. Our wedding ceremony was completed in the presence of members of both families. Please keep us in your prayers so that we can build a happy and peaceful life together,” Sharmin said.
Speaking about the significance of marriage, the singer said it was one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. She acknowledged that the new relationship also brings new responsibilities, describing the experience as one filled with different emotions.
“With new responsibilities and a new relationship, the feeling is quite different. With the love and blessings of our families and those close to us, we have started this new journey. I ask everyone to pray for us,” she said.
Sharmin Akter has maintained a presence in the Bangladeshi music scene since gaining wider recognition through ‘Channel i Banglar Gaan 2016’. Winning the competition provided an important platform for the singer and helped introduce her voice to a broader audience. Since then, she has continued to pursue music and establish herself professionally.
Her husband, Sabbir Quraishi, is also associated with music. Their shared connection to the creative world has therefore become an important part of their relationship. Both have pursued their own journeys in music, and their common interest in the field has provided a natural point of connection between them.
The couple chose to keep the wedding ceremony centred on family and close relatives rather than making it a large public celebration. The presence of their families marked the occasion as an intimate beginning to their married life.
For Sharmin, the wedding marks a new phase alongside her continuing musical journey. As she balances her personal life with her work in music, the singer has received warm wishes from those familiar with her career.
The newly married couple has asked well-wishers to keep them in their prayers as they begin their life together and take on the responsibilities of a new family.
