A violent incident linked to alleged academic dishonesty during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in Bangladesh’s port district of Chattogram has led to the arrest of four students following the stabbing of two of their peers.
The attack took place on Sunday afternoon at around 1:30 pm outside Baraiarhat Degree College in the upazila of Mirsarai. The victims and the accused were all examinees from different secondary schools participating in the same SSC examination centre.
According to police and local sources, tensions began during the science examination when several students from Korerhat Kamini Majumdar High School allegedly requested answer assistance from two fellow candidates of Baraiarhat Municipal High School. The request was reportedly refused.
After the examination concluded, the situation escalated dramatically. As the two students were returning home, they were allegedly ambushed by a group of 10–12 students. The victims were attacked with sharp weapons and sustained serious injuries. Local witnesses stated that the assault occurred in a sudden and coordinated manner, leaving the victims defenceless.
Fellow students and bystanders quickly intervened and rescued the injured teenagers, who were then transported to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Their current condition has not been officially disclosed, though sources suggest they suffered significant injuries.
Following a complaint filed by one of the victim’s fathers, law enforcement launched an immediate investigation. Acting on intelligence, police conducted an overnight operation and arrested four suspects from the Korerhat market area on Monday morning. The detainees are also students from the same academic institution allegedly involved in the incident.
A case has been formally registered, and the arrested individuals have been sent to court for further legal proceedings. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the attack.
A spokesperson from Jorarganj Police Station stated that the situation has been taken seriously due to the involvement of students in a violent criminal act immediately following a public examination. Police have assured that strict legal action will be pursued.
