An unreleased composition by the legendary Bangladeshi musician Lucky Akhand has been officially launched, decades after its inception. The song, titled “Jar Kache Mon Rekhe”, was released on 15 April via the YouTube channel of the production house Gaan Janala. This project brings to light a melody that remained unheard for thirty-four years, now performed by the popular contemporary artist Tarun Munshi.
The origins of the song date back to the early 1990s, with a significant development occurring around 1998. During that period, Lucky Akhand, a titan of the Bangladeshi music industry, frequently attended evening musical gatherings at the Dhanmondi office of renowned lyricist Golam Morshed. It was during one of these sessions that Akhand composed the tune for lyrics penned by Morshed.
Despite the composition being intended for Lucky Akhand’s own voice, various circumstances prevented him from recording it during his lifetime. Following Akhand’s demise in 2017, the lyrics and melody remained in the archives of Golam Morshed until the decision was made to produce the track as a tribute to the late maestro.
The creative team behind the release sought to maintain the integrity of the original composition while adapting it for a modern audience. The music video for the track was directed by Rumkee Rusa and Mashrur Hossain.

Lyricist Golam Morshed expressed that Lucky Akhand played a pivotal role in his creative life, noting that many of his verses were written specifically with Akhand in mind. Morshed remarked that he had held onto the song for years, but eventually felt that Tarun Munshi was the most capable artist to do justice to the legendary composer’s work. He praised Munshi for his execution of the track and expressed confidence that listeners would appreciate the rendition.
Tarun Munshi described the experience as a profound honour. He noted that having grown up admiring and following Lucky Akhand’s musical style, performing a song originally composed for the legend was a significant milestone. Munshi clarified that while he maintained the original structure of Akhand’s composition, he infused his own style to ensure the track resonated with contemporary listeners.
