Teacher’s Body Found in Toilet Tank in Pabna

A 45-year-old schoolteacher was found dead inside a toilet tank in Ekdanta area of Atgharia upazila in Pabna on Thursday morning, with police suspecting that she may have been strangled before her body was dumped there.

The deceased was identified as Gita Rani, 45, wife of Nanda Das, from Baroipara village in Ekdanta union. She worked as a teacher at Chachkia BRAC School. Police recovered her body from an abandoned toilet tank near her home at around 11am on 30 July.

Atgharia police station officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque confirmed the recovery and said the circumstances surrounding the death were being investigated.

According to police and local residents, Gita Rani had been living alone at the house, while her husband stayed in Dhaka. Preliminary accounts suggest that the incident may have taken place during the early hours of Thursday, when unidentified intruders allegedly entered the house by cutting through a section of the wall.

The intruders reportedly came into the house at around 3am. Gita is believed to have noticed their presence, after which a struggle allegedly broke out between her and the intruders. Police and local people suspect that she was subsequently strangled and that her body was carried outside and placed inside the abandoned toilet tank beside the house.

Her absence was noticed in the morning, prompting relatives and local residents to search the surrounding area. During the search, they reportedly discovered her body inside the tank at about 11am and informed the police.

Officers from Atgharia police station then went to the scene and recovered the body. Arrangements were being made to send it to the morgue at Pabna General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy is expected to help establish the precise cause and circumstances of her death.

Police have not yet determined who was responsible for the killing, why Gita Rani was targeted or exactly how the incident unfolded. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged break-in, the suspected struggle inside the house and the subsequent disposal of the body.

The motive remains unclear, and no details about any arrests or suspects have been confirmed. Police said the investigation was continuing and that further information would emerge as evidence was gathered and the post-mortem examination was completed.
