Bangladesh Champions’ anticipated debut in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) has been delayed following the postponement of their opening fixture against traditional rivals Pakistan. The match was called off moments before its scheduled start due to unforeseen technical difficulties at the venue.
The highly anticipated clash was set to take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates at 9:30 pm local time on Sunday. Fans and players were gearing up for the match when tournament organisers announced the sudden decision to postpone proceedings. Officials confirmed that a rescheduled date and time for the Bangladesh-Pakistan fixture will be communicated in due course.
The World Championship of Legends features retired international cricketers and experienced stalwarts competing on a global franchise stage. The previous edition of the tournament took place in England, where South Africa Champions clinched the trophy after a series of commanding performances.
The third edition of the tournament has expanded to feature seven prominent cricketing nations: Bangladesh, India, Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Pakistan. Each side will compete in six group-stage fixtures, with the top four teams on the points table advancing to the semi-finals.
According to the original schedule, Bangladesh are slated to face England on 5 October, followed by matches against Australia on 7 October, West Indies on 9 October, India on 11 October, and South Africa Champions on 14 October. Event organisers are reviewing whether the postponed opener will affect the remaining group fixtures.
The Bangladesh Champions squad comprises prominent former international players, including former national team captain Mahmudullah Riyad, Mohammad Ashraful, Imrul Kayes, Abu Hider Rony, Nasir Hossain, Rony Talukdar, Elias Sunny, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Rubel Hossain, Ziaur Rahman, and Enamul Haque Jr.
