Teen Dies After Family Murder Suspect Also Killed Lynching Incident

A 17-year-old girl has died after sustaining critical injuries in a brutal multiple homicide at a rented house in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur district, deepening an already devastating tragedy in which her mother and two sisters were killed earlier in the same attack. The accused in the case also died after being subjected to mob violence shortly after the incident.

The attack took place on Thursday afternoon in a riverside rented home in the Dhanhata area of Raipur municipal town. According to police and local accounts, a young man entered the residence and attacked four members of the same family with sharp weapons. The victims were identified as the mother, Shahinur Begum (40), and her daughters Sipa Akter (10), Shayma Akter (21), and Iqra Begum (17).

Shahinur Begum and her youngest daughter Sipa were declared dead at the scene. Shayma, a student of Adamjee Cantonment College in Dhaka, succumbed to her injuries after being taken to Raipur Upazila Health Complex. Iqra, who was a student of class twelve, was critically wounded and later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She died while being transported, around 3pm on Thursday.

The alleged attacker, identified as Antar Majumdar (28) from Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali, reportedly worked as a travelling fruit seller in the Raipur area. Local residents detained him shortly after the assault as he attempted to flee the scene. He was then beaten by a crowd before police arrived and rescued him in an injured condition. He later died while undergoing treatment at hospital around 2:30pm.

Police have stated that the motive behind the killings remains unclear. Investigators are examining whether there was any prior connection between the accused and the victims or any underlying dispute that may have triggered the attack. Officials have also indicated that substance abuse is being considered as a possible factor, though no definitive conclusion has been reached.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and shock as neighbours rushed into the house after hearing screams. They found the victims bleeding inside the home before transporting them to the local health facility. The violent aftermath, including the mob assault on the suspect, has added another layer to the incident now under official scrutiny.

Raipur police have recovered evidence from the scene and sent all bodies for post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to establish the exact sequence of events and motive behind one of the most disturbing incidents reported in the area in recent times.
