The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalised its senior men’s squads for the upcoming Twenty20 International series against England and Ireland, alongside the selection roster for the upcoming Asian Cup. The announcements have caused a major restructuring of the national team, headlined by the inclusion of 15-year-old opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the wholesale omission of long-standing short-format batsman Suryakumar Yadav.
In the most significant change to the team’s leadership hierarchy, Suryakumar Yadav has not only been relieved of his Twenty20 captaincy but has been dropped from both squads entirely. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of India’s international 20-over side, with Tilak Varma named as his designated vice-captain for both the overseas tours and the continental tournament.
The headline inclusion across both squad lists is the young opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi. At just 15 years of age, he has become the youngest player ever to be selected for the senior Indian national cricket team.
Suryavanshi’s selection follows an extraordinary campaign for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), alongside a prolonged run of heavy run-scoring in age-group internationals and domestic tournaments over the past two years.
| Statistical Category | Validated Performance Output |
| Total Innings Batted | 16 Innings |
| Aggregate Runs Scored | 776 Runs |
| Batting Average | 48.50 |
| Official Strike Rate | 236.58 |
The national selection committee has heavily rewarded recent domestic and franchise performances, handing maiden international call-ups to several standout players. Alongside Suryavanshi, fast-medium bowler Prince Yadav, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, and pacer Harshit Rana have successfully earned their first call-ups to the senior national team.
Concurrently, several established international players have retained their spots across both squads, including wicketkeeper-batsmen Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel, and frontline fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.
The final player combinations issued by the BCCI for the respective international campaigns are detailed below:
Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
