Three Arrested in Separate Anti-Drug Raids in Khoksa

Police have arrested three people with yaba tablets in two separate anti-drug operations in Khoksa upazila of Kushtia district. The arrests were made on Wednesday night (4 November) and in the early hours of Thursday (5 November), as officers from Khoksa Police Station conducted raids at two locations in the upazila.

According to police, the first operation took place at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday on a brick-paved road near Kalibari in Shimulia Union. Officers arrested two men during the raid. They were identified as Md Asadul Islam, also known as Kalu, 34, from Garal village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district, and Md Sohag Pramanik, 31, from Dhushund village in Khoksa upazila, Kushtia.

A second operation was carried out at around 12:15 am on Thursday in the Purba Para area of Gopgram. Police raided a location in front of the house of Md Jihad Hossain, on the paved road connecting Aruapara with Amlabari Bazar. During the operation, officers arrested Md Salam Pramanik, 43, a resident of Mathpara in Amlabari area of Khoksa.

Khoksa Police Station said that Asadul Islam and Sohag Pramanik, who were arrested during the first operation, had several previous cases registered against them. However, police did not disclose further details about those cases.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against all three individuals in connection with the separate operations. Following the necessary procedures, they were sent to court, police said.

The police said regular anti-drug operations were being conducted across the upazila to curb the spread of narcotics and maintain public order. Tackling the sale, distribution and supply of illegal drugs remains a key focus of these enforcement activities. The police also indicated that such operations would continue as part of their efforts to prevent drug-related offences.

Drug trafficking and the distribution of illegal substances remain concerns for law enforcement agencies at the local level. Operations targeting suspected dealers and distribution networks are among the measures used to address the problem. Roads, residential areas and other locations suspected of being used for drug-related activities require regular monitoring.

However, enforcement alone cannot provide a lasting solution. Public awareness, community involvement and cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies are also important in preventing the spread of narcotics. Families, educational institutions and local communities can play a role in discouraging drug use and helping vulnerable individuals avoid involvement in drug-related activities.

The latest arrests form part of the ongoing anti-drug efforts by Khoksa Police Station. Police have reiterated their commitment to continuing operations against narcotics-related activities to maintain law and order across the upazila.
