Two Motorcyclists Killed in Tractor Collision in Natore

Two young men were killed after their motorcycle collided with a sand-laden tractor in Singra upazila of Natore district. The accident occurred at around 8pm on Thursday near Azardurga Bridge in the Jamtali area.

The victims were identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique and Md Bellal. Siddique was the son of Dudu Mollah, a resident of Rameshwarpur village in Gabtali upazila of Bogura. Bellal was the son of Sabed Ali Sikdar, from the Kamar Chatt area.

According to police, the two men were travelling from Bogura to Dori Mohishmari village in Singra to attend their maternal uncle’s funeral prayers. They were riding on the same motorcycle when the accident occurred.

Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam said the motorcycle reached the Faridnagar area when it collided with a sand-carrying tractor approaching from the opposite direction. The impact threw both riders off the motorcycle, leaving them seriously injured.

Abu Bakkar Siddique died at the scene from his injuries. Bellal was rescued and rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The accident has left the families of both young men devastated. They had set out on a journey to attend a family funeral, but the trip ended in tragedy before they could reach their destination.

Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal of Jholmalia Highway Police Station said the process of taking legal action over the incident was under way. Police are dealing with the case in accordance with the applicable procedures.

Road accidents involving motorcycles and heavy vehicles remain a serious safety concern, particularly on regional roads where different types of vehicles share relatively narrow routes. Tractors used to transport construction materials, including sand, can pose additional risks when they approach other vehicles from the opposite direction, especially if adequate precautions are not maintained.

Motorcycle riders are advised to wear properly fastened helmets, maintain safe speeds and remain alert to approaching heavy vehicles. Drivers of tractors and other large vehicles also have a responsibility to maintain safe distances and exercise caution, particularly on roads with limited space for manoeuvring.

The authorities are expected to take the necessary legal steps in connection with the fatal collision.
