A deepening sense of anguish has gripped a family in Faridpur’s Sadarpur upazila after a nine-year-old boy, Samiul Mallik, went missing three days ago, with no confirmed trace of his whereabouts despite extensive search efforts.
Samiul, the son of Mirajul Mallik from Nayakandi village under Krishnapur Union, reportedly left home early on Monday morning, 15 June, riding his bicycle as part of his routine. He did not return thereafter, prompting immediate concern among family members when he failed to come back home as expected.
Relatives, neighbours and acquaintances were quickly alerted, and searches were conducted across nearby villages, relatives’ homes and other likely locations. However, despite continuous efforts over the past three days, no reliable information has emerged regarding his location.
The situation took a more alarming turn when, according to family members, a message was received on Tuesday morning, 16 June, at around 10 am. The message was sent to the IMO number of Samiul’s paternal uncle, Robin Mallik, and demanded a ransom of 300,000 taka for the child’s release. The claim has intensified fear and distress within the family, though authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the authenticity of the message.
The disappearance has triggered widespread concern in the local community, with residents joining the family in urging swift action from law enforcement agencies. Emotional scenes have been reported as relatives continue to hope for the safe return of the child.
Police at Sadarpur Police Station have stated that the incident is being treated with utmost seriousness. Officers confirmed that multiple teams have been deployed to investigate all possible leads, including the reported ransom communication. Regular contact is being maintained with the family as part of ongoing coordination efforts, and authorities are exploring all legal and investigative avenues to locate the missing boy.
