Three students from the Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur have been detained following allegations of homosexuality made by their peers. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, 16 May 2026, in the Heaven City area, a residential neighborhood situated adjacent to the university campus. Following their initial detention by a group of fellow students, the university administration intervened and subsequently transferred the three individuals into police custody for further investigation.
The detained individuals have been identified as Kawsar, a student from the 26th batch of the Faculty of Fisheries originally from Natore; Monirul, a student from the 25th batch of the same faculty, also from Natore; and Robiul, a student from the 25th batch of the Fisheries Faculty, who hails from Pabna district.
According to accounts provided by the university students who initiated the detention, suspicion regarding the behavior and interpersonal dynamics of the accused had been circulating within the student community for some time. Acting on these persistent suspicions, a group of students began closely monitoring and tracking the movements of the three individuals from Saturday afternoon.
As night fell, the observing students confronted and detained the three suspects in the Heaven City area for questioning. Concurrently, the students notified the university administration regarding the situation. Following the arrival of institutional officials, the three accused individuals were escorted to the university’s central security wing for formal administrative processing.
During the initial confrontation, the detaining students examined the mobile phones belonging to the accused. They alleged that the digital devices contained evidence of active communications with various homosexual groups and individuals. Furthermore, the students claimed to have discovered explicit logs of text interactions and social media conversations corroborating their initial suspicions of same-sex activities.
When questioned regarding the allegations, the three accused students provided distinctly contrasting accounts of their involvement and personal circumstances:
Monirul admitted to his sexual orientation, stating that he has felt an exclusive attraction toward males rather than females since his childhood. However, he explicitly emphasized that he had not coerced, induced, or instigated any other individual into engaging in similar behavior.
Robiul completely denied the allegations of homosexuality, asserting that his relationship with Monirul was restricted to a close, platonic friendship. He maintained that his actions had been entirely misinterpreted by the student body and that the accusations leveled against him were completely factually incorrect.
Kawsar also rejected the allegations of misconduct, pointing out that he had only recently enrolled at the university as a junior student. He stated that he was not involved in any form of anti-social activity and explained that his presence at the location was motivated solely by a desire to introduce himself to and familiarize himself with his senior university peers.
The Proctor of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Professor Dr Mohammad Naosher Wan, addressed the incident formally, stating that the university administration strictly upholds institutional decorum and does not condone any form of activity deemed anti-social under domestic frameworks. He assured that a thorough internal inquiry would be conducted to establish the facts, enabling the administration to execute all necessary disciplinary actions. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the university authorities issued an order suspending the three students from the institution.
| Detained Student | Academic Affiliation | District of Origin | Initial Institutional Action |
| Monirul | Faculty of Fisheries (25th Batch) | Natore | Temporary Suspension from University |
| Robiul | Faculty of Fisheries (25th Batch) | Pabna | Temporary Suspension from University |
| Kawsar | Faculty of Fisheries (26th Batch) | Natore | Temporary Suspension from University |
Following the completion of primary administrative procedures at the security wing, the university management resolved to hand the matter over to civilian law enforcement. At approximately 12:30 am on Sunday, the three suspended students were formally transferred into the custody of the local police by the university administration in the presence of the gathered student body.
