Top Order Collapses as Bangladesh Dismissed for 234 Against UAE

Bangladesh’s longstanding batting vulnerabilities resurfaced in Dubai as a dramatic mid-innings collapse saw them bowled out for a modest 234 against the United Arab Emirates. Despite a commanding opening partnership that laid a promising foundation, the visitors surrendered their advantage, failing to bat through the opening day of the warm-up fixture.

The match began in ideal fashion for Bangladesh. Opening batsmen Soumya Sarkar and Sadman Islam approached the early overs with composure, scoring fluently and neutralizing the initial threat from the host attack. The pair dispatched loose deliveries with confidence, comfortably taking the score past the century mark and signaling prospects of a formidable first-innings total.

However, the momentum shifted abruptly once the 108-run opening stand was broken. Soumya Sarkar top-scored for the side with a crisp 57 before his departure triggered a sudden decay across the batting lineup. Sadman Islam, having provided solid support, was unable to steady the ship as the middle order unraveled under disciplined bowling from the Emirati attack.

Incoming batsman Mominul Haque attempted to reconstruct the innings, offering a measured defense amidst the flurry of wickets. His resolute 33 off 63 deliveries briefly halted the damage, but he lacked sustained support from the opposite end. Veteran keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim fell for just 4, whilst Jaker Ali managed a brief 8 before making his exit.

The UAE bowlers capitalized relentlessly on the visitors’ lack of application. Bangladesh’s batting blues deepened significantly in the second session, losing six wickets for a paltry 74 runs. Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz could not stem the tide, departing for 8 as the lower order found itself exposed prematurely.

A late resistance from Nayeem Hasan, who stroked a useful 36, and Taijul Islam’s gritty 16 ensured Bangladesh edged past the 200-run mark. Junaid was the standout performer with the ball for the home side, capturing three wickets, while Omid and Haider Ali claimed two apiece to keep the visitors in check.

In reply, the United Arab Emirates faced a brief period before stumps, losing opener Luqman early to pace bowler Khaled Ahmed with the score on 24. The hosts reached the close of play at 34 for the loss of one wicket, trailing Bangladesh by 200 runs heading into the second day.

This practice match forms a crucial part of Bangladesh’s preparation for upcoming international commitments in the region. Warm-up fixtures against Associate nations are designed to help subcontinental sides adjust to local pitch conditions, movement, and heat. However, the inability to build sustained partnerships against a developing bowling unit highlights persistent concerns regarding middle-order discipline and adaptability ahead of stiffer international challenges.
