A devastating domestic dispute over a deceased pet bird has resulted in the tragic death of a fourteen-year-old boy in Lakshmipur. The teenager was allegedly stabbed to death by his younger brother following an escalation of a childhood argument. The harrowing incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, 8 July, in Dilshadpur village, located within Ward 3 of Parbatinagar Union in the Lakshmipur Sadar sub-district. The victim, identified as Al-Amin, was the eldest son of Jafar Ahmed, a local resident.
According to local community members and police sources, the conflict originated earlier in the morning when a stray cat killed a pet bird belonging to Al-Amin’s ten-year-old brother, Babu. Overcome with grief by the sudden loss of his pet, Babu spent the better part of the day crying inconsolably. Disturbed by the continuous crying, Al-Amin eventually intervened and ordered his younger brother to stop. This initial friction quickly led to a heated verbal altercation between the two underage siblings. As tempers flared, the argument turned physical when Al-Amin reportedly struck his younger brother to quieten him down.
Infuriated and acting in a fit of sudden rage, Babu ran inside the family home, fetched a sharp domestic knife, and struck Al-Amin directly in the chest. Al-Amin collapsed immediately, bleeding profusely from the severe wound. Shocked family members and nearby neighbours rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion and immediately transported the critically injured teenager to Noakhali General Hospital for emergency medical intervention. Despite the best efforts of the trauma team, the attending doctors formally pronounced Al-Amin dead later that evening while he was undergoing emergency treatment.
The tragic loss of a young life over a minor domestic grievance has cast a sombre shadow over Dilshadpur village. Wahidur Rahman, the Chairman of the Parbatinagar Union Parishad, expressed his deep condolences, confirming that the local council had been informed of the heart-breaking altercation.
Law enforcement authorities have since initiated a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing. The Additional Superintendent of Police for Administration and Finance in Lakshmipur, Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi, confirmed the details of the tragedy. Describing the event as deeply tragic and unfortunate, he stated that a specialised police unit had been dispatched to the scene to secure the area and gather evidence. The police department is currently reviewing juvenile justice protocols to determine the appropriate legal proceedings required for this sensitive case.
