Tragic Road Accidents Claim Four Lives Ahead of Festival

In a heartbreaking sequence of road accidents last Friday night, four people lost their lives in separate incidents in Dhaka, just days before the upcoming festival. Among the victims were a father and his only daughter, whose final outing for festive shopping ended in tragedy.

Saju Ahmed Sujon, 47, a government employee, decided to take his daughter, Sumaiya Ahmed Trisha, for shopping on his weekly holiday. The pair left their Motijheel residence in AGB Colony, eager to buy new clothes for the celebrations. They rode a motorcycle towards New Market, with Trisha seated behind her father.

At approximately 10:30 pm near Science Laboratory junction, a truck collided with their motorcycle from behind as they were about to turn towards a shoe store on Elephant Road. Both father and daughter were thrown onto the road, with the truck wheels running over them. Saju died instantly at the scene, while Trisha, a student at East West University, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The same night, another accident occurred in Tejgaon Industrial Area. A CNG auto-rickshaw carrying three passengers was struck by a truck while the driver attempted a U-turn near BG Press. The rickshaw overturned, killing passenger Harunur Rahman Sani, 32, and the driver, Alim, 50. Sani’s wife, Brishti Akter, and sister, Happy Akter, sustained injuries and received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The trio had been returning from shopping on Bailey Road to their home in Mohakhali.

Authorities have confirmed that in both cases, the trucks involved were seized and the drivers arrested. Accidental death cases have been filed.
