The bodies of a young married couple have been recovered by the local police from their residence in the Sarankhola upazila of Bagerhat district. Law enforcement personnel discovered the bodies of Mohammad Kabir Hossain and his wife, Halima Begum, at approximately 11:00 am on Thursday inside their home in Rajair village. Kabir Hossain, the son of Abdul Majid of the same village, worked as a traditional fisherman to support his family. The couple leave behind two minor children, including a five-year-old and a vulnerable two-month-old infant.
According to local police officials, a handwritten suicide note was retrieved from the scene during the preliminary inspection of the house. The letter specifically stated that no outside parties or individuals were responsible for their deaths, explicitly declaring that the couple had chosen to depart from this world entirely of their own free will. Despite the contents of the note, local residents and neighbours suggested that deep-rooted domestic disputes had been plaguing the couple for a considerable period. Community members believe that severe marital discord and the escalating pressure of maintaining a household on a volatile fishing income may have ultimately driven the pair to take this extreme step.
The tragic demise of the young parents has cast a profound shadow of grief across the quiet rural neighbourhood of Rajair village. Relatives and neighbours have expressed immense distress over the fate of the two orphaned children, who are now left without any primary parental care. Local community leaders have gathered at the homestead to comfort the grieving extended family whilst administrative formalities are completed.
Rokeya Khanam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarankhola Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the bodies and noted that the police responded immediately after receiving alerts from local villagers. Forensic and patrol teams secured the residence to preserve any potential evidence before transferring the deceased. The bodies have since been dispatched to the Bagerhat District Hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. The OC emphasised that whilst the preliminary evidence points towards a mutual suicide, the exact circumstances leading to the deaths will only be conclusively established upon receiving the official autopsy reports and completing the ongoing police investigation.
