A fatal road traffic collision involving a bus, an easybike, and a van in Gopalganj district has resulted in one death and injuries to five others.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Monday (4 May) in the Gopinathpur Bus Stand area under Gopalganj Sadar upazila, along the Dhaka–Khulna highway. According to highway police, the crash took place when a passenger bus struck two smaller vehicles from behind.
Highway Police Sergeant Md Abdul Gaffar confirmed the sequence of events, stating that a passenger bus operated by Falguni Paribahan was travelling from Dhaka to Mathbaria. Upon reaching the Gopinathpur Bus Stand area, the bus collided with a stationary easybike and a van positioned beside the road. The impact caused immediate casualties.
The van driver, identified as Jontu Molla (45), died at the scene. He was a resident of Gopinathpur village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila and the son of the late Ali Akbar Molla. In addition to the fatality, five individuals travelling in the easybike, including its driver, sustained injuries. They were promptly rescued and transported to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not reported further details regarding the condition of the injured passengers at the time of admission. Police personnel from the highway unit responded to the incident, assisted in rescue operations, and managed traffic flow along the affected section of the highway following the collision.
