Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) personnel have apprehended two notorious criminals following a targeted anti-crime operation in the Islampara area under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna.
The drive, conducted on Friday, 24 July 2026, led to the seizure of a foreign-made pistol, live ammunition, a magazine, and a spent cartridge.
The detainees have been identified as 30-year-old Nazim, also known locally as Nadim, and his associate, 37-year-old Md Masud Rana. Both individuals reside within the Labanchara police precinct and are allegedly involved in various criminal activities across the city.
Major Md Nazmul Islam, Deputy Commander of RAB-6, confirmed the arrests to reporters, explaining that the elite force launched the raid after receiving credible intelligence regarding suspicious movements in Islampara. An armed unit cordoned off the area to prevent any escape attempt, successfully detaining the two suspects on the spot.
During preliminary questioning, Nadim disclosed information about an illicit cache stored at his residential property. RAB officers subsequently carried out a search at his residence in Labanchara. Concealed within the house, officers discovered a foreign-manufactured pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, one magazine, and one fired cartridge case.
Law enforcement officials noted that the suspects operated as part of an organized local gang involved in extortion, intimidation, and violent offences in Khulna. Possessing illegal firearms allowed the group to assert control over local rivalries and instill fear among residents. Security forces in the region have intensified intelligence-led operations recently to curb the proliferation of unlicensed weapons and gang violence.
Following the seizure, RAB authorities prepared formal charges against the duo under the Arms Act. Major Nazmul Islam confirmed that both men, alongside the confiscated firearm, ammunition, and evidence, have been formally handed over to Labanchara Police Station for legal proceedings. Local police will now conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain whether the weapon has links to previous unsolved crimes in the division.
