Two Arrested as Police Seize 16,000 Yaba Tablets at Tollgate

A major narcotics smuggling attempt was foiled on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway when police intercepted a private car carrying 16,000 Yaba tablets. The seizure took place on Thursday morning during a targeted operation at the Daudkandi toll plaza in Comilla. Law enforcement officials arrested two suspected drug traffickers at the scene and impounded the vehicle used to transport the contraband.

The detainees have been identified as 46-year-old Md Firoz, son of the late Abdul Aziz, from the Nasirabad area under the Double Mooring Police Station in Chittagong, and 38-year-old Md Milon Gazi, son of the late Dulal Gazi, hailing from Nayanagar village in the Gazaria Upazila of Munshiganj.

According to police sources, the Daudkandi district police had received a precise intelligence tip-off indicating that a substantial shipment of narcotics was being moved from the coastal border region towards the capital city. Acting on this information, a specialised team set up a checkpoint near the toll plaza to monitor suspicious vehicles arriving from Chittagong. When the suspect vehicle approached the tollgate, officers signalled the driver to pull over.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the large consignment of Yaba—a highly addictive synthetic drug combining methamphetamine and caffeine. The tablets were found meticulously hidden within a modified compartment inside the car, designed specifically to evade highway law enforcement.

Sajedul Islam Palash, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Police Station, confirmed the details of the raid. He stated that the authorities have been maintaining high vigilance along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, which historically serves as a primary transit corridor for illicit substances entering mainland Bangladesh from southeastern border districts.

The police have officially filed a criminal case against the two suspects under the Narcotics Control Act. Investigators are currently questioning the detainees to establish the origin of the shipment and to identify the broader network of distributors involved in this syndicate. Both suspects are expected to be produced before the court following preliminary interrogation.
