An anti-narcotics raid conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Manikganj resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old suspected drug dealer. The operation yielded a significant seizure of contraband items, including 102 pieces of illicit Yaba tablets and 350 grams of cannabis. The suspect, identified as Md Bijoy Khan, was reportedly operating from his parental home in the Bairagirtek area under Singair Upazila.
The targeted raid took place at approximately 4:00 pm on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. Acting under the direct supervision of Humayun Kabir Khondaker, the Deputy Director of the DNC district office in Manikganj, a specialised tactical team executed the operation. Led by Sub-Inspector Md Jamal Hossain, law enforcement officers cordoned off the suspect’s residence following precise intelligence reports. During the subsequent search of the premises, officers caught Khan red-handed with the narcotics, which had been hidden inside the house.
According to DNC officials, Khan, son of Babul Hossain, had been under surveillance for some time. Intelligence reports indicated that he had been actively involved in the local drug trade, distributing illicit substances to youths across Singair and neighbouring areas. The rise of synthetic drugs like Yaba—a highly addictive mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine—alongside traditional substances like cannabis, has been a growing concern for rural communities across the district. Such operations form a crucial part of the ongoing administrative efforts to disrupt supply networks at the grassroots level.
Following the raid, the seized narcotics were officially logged as evidence, and Khan was taken into custody. The DNC has initiated formal legal proceedings against him, filing a regular case under the Narcotics Control Act at the local Singair Police Station. Senior DNC officials reiterated their stance on drug eradication, stating that regular enforcement drives will continue unabated across the region. They emphasised that the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics distribution to safeguard vulnerable communities from the impact of drug abuse.
