Detectives from the Dhaka District North Detective Branch (DB) have arrested two men in Savar in possession of a foreign firearm, ammunition, and a quantity of illegal narcotics. The operation was conducted on Thursday night in Palowanpara, within the Rajashon neighborhood of Savar municipality. Inspector Saidul Islam of the Dhaka District North DB confirmed the arrests on Friday evening.
The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Russel Babu, son of the late Abdul Goffar from Maheshpur-Baona in Hakimpur, Dinajpur, and 20-year-old Sajib Sarkar, son of Jahidul Sarkar from Tarafpaahari in Sadullapur, Gaibandha. During the raid, officers seized a foreign-made pistol, six rounds of live pistol ammunition, a shotgun cartridge, a foreign dagger, 300 grams of heroin, five bottles of Fairdeal syrup, and 200 grams of cannabis. Detectives also confiscated two CCTV cameras and a digital video recorder (DVR) unit used by the suspects to monitor the perimeter of their hideout.
According to DB officials, the duo had been establishing local dominance through armed intimidation while running an organized narcotics trade in the area. Inspector Saidul Islam stated that formal charges under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act have been filed against both individuals at Savar Model Station.
