He was quickly rescued and transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 9:00 pm despite efforts to save his life.
Family members and witnesses said the incident was preceded by an altercation involving Billal’s nephew, Mobarak Hossain, also known as Akash. They alleged that Ramna Thana Jubo Dal convenor Didarul Islam Babu and several of his followers were assaulting Mobarak near Anarkali Market shortly before the stabbing.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Billal reportedly went to the scene and attempted to mediate the dispute. Witnesses stated that an argument subsequently broke out between Billal and Didarul. During the confrontation, Billal was allegedly stabbed, leading to the injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
Investigators are examining witness statements, available evidence, and the sequence of events leading up to the attack as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.
The killing prompted an immediate response from the political organisation concerned. On the night of the incident, Didarul Islam Babu was expelled from the party. Simultaneously, the central leadership dissolved the Ramna Thana Jubo Dal committee.
The organisational actions came amid allegations linking individuals associated with the local committee to the events surrounding the fatal attack. However, police investigations remain ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed the full findings of their inquiry.
Billal Hossain Talukdar, aged 45, was a resident of the Baganbari area of Malibagh in Dhaka. He was the son of Yusuf Talukdar and had previously served as the convenor of the Ramna Thana unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal.
Police officials have reiterated that efforts are underway to identify all those involved in the killing and to ensure that anyone found responsible is brought before the law.
