Two separate railway-related fatalities in Charghat, Rajshahi district, occurring within the same day have prompted renewed concern over safety along local rail corridors, following the deaths of a woman in the morning and a young man later that night on Tuesday.
According to local accounts, the first incident took place at approximately 8:45 a.m. near the Holidagachi area under Sholua Union. A passenger service train operating on the Rajshahi–Khulna route, identified as the Mahananda Express, was passing through the vicinity of a railway crossing when the woman came into contact with the moving train. She was estimated to be around 35 years of age.
Eyewitnesses reported that she either slipped or moved onto the tracks as the train approached. Despite immediate attention from nearby residents, she sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, and local authorities stated that efforts were underway to verify who she was and to contact any relatives.
A second fatal incident occurred later the same day in the Hobibpur area of Nimpara Union, within the Kalabipara locality. A 25-year-old man, identified as Sohaq, son of Julum Pramanik of the same area, was struck by a train during the late hours. The impact was described as extremely severe, resulting in the amputation of one of his legs. He also died on the spot.
Local residents suggested that the circumstances in the second incident may have been accidental, although the exact cause has not yet been determined. Police indicated that a full investigation is ongoing to establish how the incident occurred.
Officials from the Ishwardi Railway Police Station confirmed that teams were deployed to both locations shortly after receiving reports of the incidents. The Officer-in-Charge stated that legal procedures were being followed, including the recovery of the bodies and arrangements for post-mortem examinations. Following completion of the necessary formalities, the remains were handled in accordance with local administrative procedures.
