Two people have been killed in a road traffic collision on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00am on Thursday in the Tipordi area while vehicles were travelling on the Dhaka-bound carriageway.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ali (35), from Basabo-Adarshapur in Kotwali upazila of Barishal, and Md Monir Hossain (28), son of Malek Hossain from Galachipa in Monirampur upazila of Jashore. Both were occupants of the mini truck involved in the crash.
According to the Highway Police, the accident took place when a mini truck travelling towards Dhaka collided with the rear of a stationary covered van that had been parked on the roadside along the highway. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the driver and the assistant of the mini truck critically injured at the scene.
Local residents assisted in the rescue operation shortly after the accident. The injured were transported to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctors declared both individuals dead upon arrival.
Police later recovered the vehicles involved in the incident and took them into custody for further investigation. The bodies of the deceased were subsequently transferred to the morgue at Narayanganj General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that legal procedures are currently underway in connection with the incident. The cause of the covered van’s stationary position on the highway remains under investigation.
Kanchpur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamin Sheikh confirmed the details of the accident and stated that appropriate legal action is being taken. He also noted that the circumstances leading to the collision are being examined as part of the ongoing inquiry.
