Local residents first spotted the deceased at approximately 2:00 pm near the sluice gate of Polder No. 22 in No. 4 Deluti Union. Word of the discovery spread rapidly throughout the surrounding village, prompting a crowd of onlookers to gather at the embankments. Realising the gravity of the situation, community members immediately notified the local police station.

Responding to the emergency call, a team from Paikgachha Police Station arrived at the location shortly afterwards. Officers, assisted by local volunteers, retrieved the floating body from the water and brought it to dry land. Witnesses present at the scene attempted to identify the man, estimated to be around 70 years old, but no one could recognise him or confirm his identity.

Following the initial retrieval, officers secured the area and completed the preliminary inquest report. Police personnel subsequently took custody of the remains to initiate standard legal procedures.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paikgachha Police Station, Sheikh Awal Kabir, confirmed the recovery, stating that the deceased was taken into police custody following the inquest. He noted that the body is being sent to the morgue at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) for a comprehensive post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death.

To determine the identity of the deceased, law enforcement authorities are working alongside the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police. Investigators plan to collect biometric fingerprints from the deceased in the hope of matching them with national identification databases.

Police officers stated that official legal steps are underway and an unnatural death case is being processed. Authorities expect that the forthcoming post-mortem report, combined with forensic identification efforts, will clarify whether the tragedy resulted from drowning, natural causes, or foul play.
