A moving private car caught fire in the Farmgate area of Dhaka on Tuesday morning, causing brief disruption to traffic but no casualties.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 am on 6 May in front of the Anand Cinema traffic box on the main road under Tejgaon Police Station jurisdiction. The vehicle, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-Ch 19-3397, reportedly ignited while in motion.
According to initial information, the fire originated from a mechanical fault in the engine. The blaze escalated rapidly within moments, prompting concern among pedestrians and motorists in the vicinity. However, there was no report of panic-related injuries or secondary incidents.
A unit of the Fire Service and Civil Defence responded promptly, arriving at the scene at approximately 10:15 am. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control shortly after arrival. By the time the fire was extinguished, around one-third of the vehicle had been damaged.
Traffic movement along the busy Farmgate corridor slowed temporarily following the incident. However, authorities confirmed that normal traffic flow resumed after the affected vehicle was removed from the road.
Officials from the traffic police provided details regarding the sequence of events and subsequent response. Inspector (Traffic) Zainal Abedin stated that the fire started due to a mechanical defect while the vehicle was travelling from the Sonargaon crossing area towards Farmgate. He further confirmed that the vehicle was completely burnt in the affected section before being cleared from the road using a recovery truck.
No injuries were reported among the driver, passengers, or bystanders, and no additional property damage was recorded.
