Shroud and Bloodied Chicken Left at Dhamrai Village Homes

Panic gripped Bor Chondrail village under Kulla Union in Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka, after unidentified miscreants left burial shrouds, attar perfume, soap, and slaughtered blood-stained chickens at the main gates of three residences between late Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The disturbing items were first discovered at the residence of local resident Mosleh Uddin on Wednesday night, 4 November. Family members noticed a polythene bag hanging from the front gate grille and alerted neighbours. Upon opening the bag, residents discovered a white burial cloth, a bottle of attar, bath soap, and a freshly slaughtered, blood-soaked chicken. The following morning, on 5 November, identical bags containing shroud materials and slaughtered poultry were found at the entrance gates of his neighbours, Wahid Bhuiyan Ripon and Sentu Mia.

The targeted families believe the incident represents a deliberate attempt at psychological intimidation. Mosleh Uddin revealed that his homestead had previously been set ablaze by unknown arsonists late on the night of 24 October. Before the family could fully recover from the financial and emotional trauma of the fire, they were subjected to this ominous death-threat ritual. Mosleh noted that both Ripon and Sentu Mia had actively assisted his family following the arson attack, leading him to believe that their homes were intentionally targeted as well. He also disclosed receiving earlier telephonic threats over a land purchase dispute, though he could not definitively confirm whether the land feud was directly linked to the latest scare tactic.

Revisiting the sequence of events, Wahid Bhuiyan Ripon recounted visiting Mosleh’s home on Wednesday night after hearing about the suspicious bag. At that time, no items were present outside his own gate. However, by Thursday morning, he discovered identical shroud materials at his doorstep. Expressing severe security concerns, Sentu Mia urged law enforcement authorities to conduct a swift, impartial investigation to identify the culprits and guarantee safety for their families.

Following the discovery, the victims immediately contacted the national emergency service 999 before lodging a formal written complaint at Dhamrai Police Station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Najmul Huda Khan confirmed that a police contingent inspected the crime scenes promptly. He assured that law enforcement officers are evaluating all potential angles—including previous land rivalries and the recent arson incident—to unmask the perpetrators and initiate legal action.
