Warfaze Plan Jackson Tribute

Bangladeshi rock veterans Warfaze are set to mark their 42nd anniversary with a combination of new musical releases and a high-profile tribute concert honouring the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The celebrations, spanning June and July, reflect both a milestone in the band’s long-standing career and a renewed creative phase.

Founded in the early 1980s, Warfaze officially enters its 42nd year on 6 June. While no large-scale public event has been arranged specifically for the anniversary date, the band will perform at a private concert in Dhaka on the same day. Band leader Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu noted that the timing is coincidental, adding that the group may mark the occasion informally with a small celebration such as cutting a cake backstage.

Alongside the anniversary activities, Warfaze is preparing to release two new tracks within the current month. One of the songs is a reworked version of “Kromosho”, originally featured on their 1996 album Jibondhara. The track has been newly rearranged with updated instrumentation while retaining its original essence. The second release will serve as a title track for an upcoming film, although further details remain undisclosed due to production agreements.

A major highlight of their calendar will be a solo concert titled “Playlist: Tribute to Originals”, scheduled for 2 July at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre. The event is being organised by Brandmyth and is expected to bring together elements of both Western pop and Bangladeshi rock heritage.

At the concert, Warfaze will not only perform selections from their own extensive catalogue but will also present a dedicated tribute segment featuring Michael Jackson’s music. According to the organisers, the concept aims to merge two influential musical legacies—Jackson’s global pop dominance and Warfaze’s four-decade contribution to South Asian rock music. The band is currently enjoying renewed recognition following its receipt of the Ekushey Padak, one of Bangladesh’s highest civilian honours.

Tipu described the upcoming show as one of the most ambitious productions in the band’s recent history, noting that intensive rehearsals are under way. The group plans to perform approximately 10 to 12 Michael Jackson songs, alongside their own repertoire, and will be joined by several guest artistes.
