Woman Dies After Jumping Before Moving Train, Child Left Behind

A 25-year-old woman died after reportedly jumping in front of a moving train at Darshana Halt Station in Chuadanga, leaving her approximately four-year-old child alone on the platform.

The incident occurred at around 12.30am on Friday, 31 July, when the train was entering the station, according to local residents and railway police.

The deceased was identified as Nilufa, aged around 25. Police have been trying to establish her full identity and permanent address. Officers reportedly contacted her relatives using information obtained from the mobile phone found in her possession. However, her detailed personal information had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

According to people involved in the rescue operation, the woman suddenly stepped down on to the railway track as the train was approaching the station. She sustained critical injuries in the incident. Her young child, who was apparently with her at the time, remained on the platform and was not injured.

Local people and members of the railway police responded quickly after the incident and rescued the injured woman. She was taken to a nearby local clinic for emergency medical treatment. However, the attending doctor examined her and declared her dead.

The incident has left the fate of the young child at the centre of immediate concern. Railway police said the child was taken into their care following the incident and was safe. Officers have also contacted the woman’s relatives and were working to trace members of the family.
