World Cup Stamp Unveiled

A commemorative postage stamp with a face value of 10 Taka has been officially unveiled on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup 2026 by the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday morning at the Prime Minister’s office located within the National Parliament Secretariat National Parliament Secretariat. The event marked the formal introduction of special philatelic items issued in connection with the upcoming global football tournament.

Alongside the commemorative stamp, the Prime Minister also released a souvenir envelope sheet valued at 50 Taka and a data card priced at 5 Taka. These items were presented with the application of a special official cancellation seal, indicating their issuance as part of an official commemorative programme. According to information provided by the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, the items were formally issued during the ceremony.

Several senior government officials were present at the occasion. These included the Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam, the Secretary of the Ministry Bilkis Jahan Rimi, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon, and the Additional Director General of the Postal Directorate S. M. Harunur Rashid.

The commemorative release coincides with preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin shortly. The tournament will feature a record 48 national teams, marking the largest expansion in the competition’s history. The event will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, making it the first time in history that three countries will co-host a FIFA World Cup. It will also be the 23rd edition of the tournament organised by FIFA FIFA.

The issuance of commemorative stamps and related philatelic materials is a long-standing practice associated with major international sporting events. Postal authorities in many countries release such items to mark global occasions, often reflecting cultural and historical milestones connected to sport. In this instance, the issued items are intended to commemorate the forthcoming World Cup and are part of the official postal releases linked to the event.
