A 28-year-old man was critically injured after a group of armed assailants attacked him with machetes and other sharp weapons in the Seujgari area of Bogura on Tuesday night, 20 October.
The victim, identified as Nafiul Islam Nirab, was assaulted at approximately 8:30 pm in a narrow alley behind a restaurant in the Amtala neighbourhood of Seujgari. He sustained severe injuries to his head and several other parts of his body during the attack.
Nirab is the son of Faridul Islam Liton, a resident of the same area. Following the assault, local residents rescued him in a critical condition and rushed him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in Bogura.
Hospital doctors have described his condition as critical, raising serious concerns about the extent of his injuries.
According to information gathered from local sources, Nirab was sitting in an alley behind a hotel in the Amtala area when a group of approximately 10 to 12 armed individuals suddenly approached him.
The attackers reportedly carried machetes, large chopping blades and other sharp weapons. Without warning, they launched a violent assault, repeatedly striking Nirab on the head and various parts of his body.
The attack left him seriously wounded and bleeding. After inflicting multiple injuries, the assailants fled the scene, leaving him behind.
People in the surrounding area subsequently discovered Nirab in a severely injured condition. Recognising the seriousness of his wounds, they immediately arranged for him to be taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for emergency medical attention.
He was admitted to the hospital, where doctors assessed his injuries and reported that his condition remained critical.
The motive behind the assault has not yet been established. It remains unclear whether the attack resulted from a previous dispute, a personal disagreement or another unidentified cause.
Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working to establish the identities of those responsible.
Mohammad Ibrahim Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station, confirmed that police personnel visited the scene shortly after receiving information about the attack.
He said several police teams had been deployed to identify and arrest the individuals involved.
According to the officer, efforts are continuing to determine the circumstances that led to the assault and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police are also taking the necessary steps to initiate legal proceedings in connection with the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of any suspected attackers, and no arrests were confirmed in the initial information provided by police.
The involvement of a group of approximately 10 to 12 armed individuals has made identifying those responsible a central part of the investigation. Establishing the sequence of events and determining why Nirab was targeted will be important to understanding the circumstances of the attack.
Meanwhile, Nirab remains under medical care at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, with his condition described as critical.
Police investigations and efforts to apprehend the attackers are continuing, while the precise motive behind the violent assault remains unknown.
