Youth Detained in Panchhari After Attempting to Assault Child

Police in Panchhari, Khagrachhari, have detained a 17-year-old youth following allegations of attempting to sexually assault a five-year-old child by luring her with cartoons on a mobile phone. Law enforcement officers took the teenager into custody at around 9:30 pm on Friday (31 July) after receiving an oral complaint from the victim’s family.

According to family members and local sources, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 1:00 pm. The young girl was playing in the courtyard of her house when the accused approached her. Taking advantage of her innocence, the teenager offered to show her animated cartoons on his smartphone and led her away to a secluded spot. He subsequently attempted to assault the child. Terrified by the ordeal, the young girl managed to return home shortly after and confided in her mother, revealing the details of the attack.

Upon learning of the distressing event, the victim’s father went to the Panchhari Police Station later that evening and formally brought the matter to the attention of the authorities.

Confirming the operation, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchhari Police Station, Md. Ferdous Wahed, stated that police moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect as soon as the oral complaint was registered. The authorities have advised the family to admit the child to a local hospital for medical examinations and necessary support.

Although the family has not yet filed a formal written case, police have already initiated a detailed inquiry into the matter. The OC reassured that the absence of a formal written complaint will not delay the preliminary investigation, and all necessary legal procedures are actively being pursued to ensure justice.
