Zara Larsson First Female Spring Fling Headliner Since 2014

Yale University’s Spring Fling festival is set to return on 25 April 2026 with Swedish pop sensation Zara Larsson as the headliner, marking the first time a female artist has topped the bill since 2014. She will perform on Old Campus following sets by British singer-songwriter and DJ Aluna and American rapper Sheck Wes, best known for his 2018 hit “Mo Bamba.”

The announcement came shortly after midnight on Thursday at Toad’s Place, where a live video revealed the festival’s 2026 lineup. Excitement among the crowd was palpable as cheers erupted across the venue.

Larsson, a Grammy-nominated artist with over 61 million monthly listeners on Spotify, has risen as one of the leading voices in contemporary pop. Committee members highlighted her dynamic stage presence and growing cultural influence as key reasons for her selection.

“Our priority this year was to curate a lineup that reflects the diverse musical tastes of Yale’s student body,” said Mateo Felix ’27, talent chair of the Spring Fling Committee. “Pop is consistently the genre students are most enthusiastic about, and securing Zara Larsson to headline has been an incredible journey for us.”

Aluna, formerly part of the duo AlunaGeorge, will open the festival. She has collaborated with notable artists including KAYTRANADA, Chris Lake, and Diplo, and in 2023 launched her own music label championing Black, female, and LGBTQ artists. Following her, Sheck Wes will deliver a high-energy performance, drawing from collaborations with J. Cole, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver.

Committee members emphasised the careful planning behind the festival. Artists are selected based on cultural relevance, streaming metrics, and live performance quality. Contingency measures, including the possibility of moving the festival indoors to Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium, ensure the event can continue despite inclement weather.

Before the professional acts, the winners of the annual Spring Fling Battle of the Bands will open the show, chosen by student vote during performances on 11 April. Admission is free for all Yale students, each permitted to bring one guest.
