A major drug seizure has been made in Bogura, where detectives recovered 80 kilogrammes of cannabis from a sand-laden truck during a late-night operation, leading to the arrest of one individual.
According to the District Detective Branch (DB) of police, the operation was conducted on Tuesday night (28 April) in the TMSS area of Bogura town along the Bogura–Rangpur highway. Acting on confidential intelligence, law enforcement officials set up a temporary checkpoint shortly before midnight to intercept suspected drug trafficking activity.
At approximately 11:45 pm, a truck travelling from Rangpur towards Bogura was stopped for inspection. The vehicle, which was reportedly carrying sand, initially appeared to be a routine freight transporter. However, a detailed search conducted by the DB team uncovered three large plastic sacks concealed beneath the sand load. Upon opening the sacks, officers discovered a total of 80 kilogrammes of dried cannabis carefully packed for transportation.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Robiul Islam (25), son of Mamun Akand of Krishnapur village under Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur district. Law enforcement officials stated that he was taken into custody at the scene along with the seized narcotics and the vehicle used for transport.
The recovered truck has also been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation. Police suspect that the vehicle was specifically modified or arranged to conceal illegal substances under legitimate cargo in an attempt to evade detection during transit.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bogura District Detective Branch, Iqbal Bahar, confirmed the seizure and arrest, noting that a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act at Bogura Sadar Police Station.
He further added that investigators are working to determine the source of the drugs and whether additional individuals or networks are involved in the trafficking operation. Authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as the inquiry progresses.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over the use of commercial transport routes for drug smuggling, particularly through major highways connecting northern districts of Bangladesh.
