Indian comedian Kapil Sharma has once again found himself the target of serious threats, with demands for a large sum of money. Following swift action by the Mumbai Crime Branch, the accused was arrested from West Bengal.
This is not the first time Kapil Sharma has faced such dangers. His café in Canada had earlier come under attack multiple times.
These incidents raised concerns over targeted intimidation against the entertainer.
After the recent arrest, the accused was transferred to Mumbai. He was presented before the court, which ordered his custody until 30 September.
Police are now investigating whether the suspect has links to organised gangs or was acting independently to extort money.
According to media reports, the accused has been identified as Dilip Chaudhary, who allegedly contacted Sharma multiple times from West Bengal.
Police officials revealed that Sharma received about seven threatening calls in just two days (22 and 23 September). Given the seriousness of the matter, investigators are examining whether the threats involve any international or domestic gang networks.
In a parallel development, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) recently issued a warning against Sharma’s popular programme, The Great Indian Kapil Show.
Party activists expressed anger at the repeated use of the word “Bombay” instead of “Mumbai” on the show, calling it a deliberate affront to regional identity.
