The Keokradong tourism centre in the remote Ruma Upazila of Bandarban Hill District is set to reopen from Wednesday.
On the afternoon of 29 September (Monday), the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban, Shamim Ara Rini, issued a public notice outlining the reopening. The notice imposes six conditions for visitors, as follows:
Six Conditions for Visitors
- Restricted Access: Considering overall law and order, tourists are only allowed to visit the designated tourism centres in Ruma Upazila. Movement to other areas of the upazila is strictly prohibited.
- Mandatory Tour Guides: Tourists must be accompanied by tour guides registered with the district or upazila administration. Independent travel without authorised guides is not permitted.
- Compliance with Checkpoints: Visitors must provide all requested information at tourism-related checkpoints or information centres.
- Reporting Violations: Any violation of the above instructions by tourists must be immediately reported to the relevant authorities or the nearest law enforcement agency.
- Vehicle Restrictions: Vehicles that are unsuitable for hilly terrain or lacking fitness certification are prohibited from operating within the specified tourism centres. The upazila administration will regulate all tourist vehicles according to Bangladesh’s existing laws.
- Legal Action for Unauthorised Incidents: Any unauthorised or untoward incidents will result in legal action against the responsible tourism agency, and may lead to reimposition of restrictions on the tourism sector.
